So, you want to be a Humbug?
No you don't!
Humbug is the most thankless position in ECV. You are responsible for all Chapter events, all the gold, all the positions below you, and this also includes the responsibility of feeding and caring for all people at all events throughout the year, just to name a few.
What you want to be is an X Noble Grand Humbug.
Problem is you have to be a Humbug first to become an X Humbug
But if you feel you still want to be a Humbug, these are some steps to help you on your way.
First you should know that the Lost Dutchman Chapter basically bases our ladder, "we call it the chairs", on Grand Council.
We start with GDR/RECORDER, then it's VNGH then it's NGH.
That's it. It's only three ladder positions.
Now, to get to one of those three positions you need to spend some time in the positions below
Positions:
COOK CREW MEMBER 2-5 YEARS (before Cook)
You will learn how the cook shack and cook operate. You will also learn to cook for 100-500 clampers. The chapter is always looking for dedicated cook crew members. A great place to start your trek to Humbug.
COOK 3-5 YEARS
Cook all meals, buy all grub, clean and maintain all cook shack equipment and keep records of all gold spent.
You will learn money management, patience and basic math. You may also learn to cook better, "not guaranteed" . Many of Humbugs come from this position.
SHERIFF 1-5 YEARS (before Hangman)
You will be responsible for all PBC'S in accordance with Grand Council Rules. You will help teach the PBC's about Clamperdom and it's rules, functions and how to maintain Seemly Decorum. You will follow all directions of the Hangman. You will assist in keeping all PBC's safe and secure. You will learn patients and how to better communicate with your fellow clampers. A great place to start your treck to Humbug.
HAWKER 1-5 YEARS (before Hangman)
You will be responsible for all Hawker items in the shack and the purchasing of new items for sale. You will spend many hours hawking our goods and acquiring as much gold as you can. You will also spend many hours before a doins purchasing items. You will learn money management, inventory control and salesmanship. Many of Humbugs also come from this position.
HANGMAN 3-5 YEARS
You will be responsible for all PBC'S in accordance with Grand Council Rules. You will help teach the PBC's about Clamperdom and it's rules, functions and how to maintain Seemly Decorum. You will learn patients and how to better communicate with your fellow clampers. Many of Humbugs also come from this position..
ASST HAWKER
Help the Hawker with all above.
You will learn how the Hawker shack operates and how to hawk our goods. You will also spend many hours hawking our goods and acquiring as much gold as you can. This is a new position and a great place to start your treck. The chapter is always looking for a dedicated Asst. Hawker.
LOST LEADER 3-10 YEARS
You will plan, lead, and execute the chapter's four wheel drive functions. You will learn how to basically help set up a doins. Responsible to also pre-run routes to assure the safety of the clampers and our guest. Find suitable camping areas and determine what supply's and equipment your fellow clampers will need for the functions.
As of yet, we have not had a Humbug come from this position, but that is not to say it won't happen.
Raffleer 3-10 YEARS
Buys goods to be raffled off at Clamper functions. Sells tickets for raffle and 50/50 drawings at all functions too. You will also spend many hours before a doins purchasing items. You will learn salesmanship and how to entice clampers into spending their gold on useless items of endearment.
